Mantra – om saha na vavatu
(from the Taittiriya Upanishad)
ॐ सह नाववतु।
सह नौ भुनक्तु।
सह वीर्यं करवावहै।
तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु
मा विद्विषावहै।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
om saha na vavatu, saha nau bhunaktu
saha viryam kara vavahai, tejas vina vadhita mastu,
ma vidvi savahai om shanti, shanti, shanti
(Scott Petrie translation):
may we support and nourish each other;
may we work together with clear intention,
may our inquiries mutually seek Truth and
may we not seek to create division.
let there be peace in me, in my environment and in my relationships
(a different but common translation):
may we all be protected
may we all be nourished
may we work together with great energy
may our intellect be sharpened (may our study be effective)
let there be no Animosity amongst us
peace (in me), peace (in nature), peace (in divine forces)
